I have some very sad news to tell you. Firstly, Jacki Clark who in the past was a Federation Assistant Administrator and active member of Areley Kings WI passed away at the beginning of February after a long battle with cancer. Also, Diana Cartmel, a well-known WI member has suddenly passed away. She was a very active member of Stourton WI and organised our annual Bridge Drive event. Diana was a member of the Federation’s ‘Executive committee’ in the early 1990s and continued to support the Federation and her own WI right up to her death. They will both be very sadly missed by many members.
Congratulations to two WIs who celebrate their centenaries this month: Hadzor & Oddingley WI formed on 4 April 1917 and Hanbury WI on 5 April 1917. Long may you all continue to enjoy being members of this wonderful organisation!
“Women's Institute is in a jam over their crumbling Jerusalem as the group's Georgian stately home of 70 years faces closure without a £2m rescue”
This was the heading in a ‘Mail online’ article recently, which some of you may have read. Ladies, we must stay positive and continue to raise money to SAVE DENMAN. Many WIs and individual members from Worcestershire have raised and sent money to Save Denman and for this I sincerely thank them. Please don’t stop the fundraising; we still have a long way to go! To date the amount which has been sent to Denman from Worcestershire is £ 4,130. This amount is what we know about but some of you may have sent money direct to Denman. If this is the case can you please contact Trudi in WI House and let them know the amount which you have sent direct so that we add it to our total.
I can now confirm that the new ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter PRUE LEITH will be the main speaker at our Federation ACM on Tuesday 17 October. Please put this date in your diaries. Prue has had a very varied and successful career: from setting up and running her own catering businesses, sitting on the Boards of various national companies, to being an entertaining writer and novelist as well as presenting television programmes including the ‘Great British Menu’.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Spring Meeting at The Artrix, Bromsgrove on Monday 24 April 7-9pm. The speaker is Dave Fletcher, a Polar Explorer and Historian. The closing date for applications is 24 March but please contact Trudi in the office after this date to see if places are still available.
Don’t forget the WI is here to inspire you; It is everything you want it to be; It is what you make of it. So, ladies, continue to enjoy your WI and be proud to be a member.
